Private Pay
I operate as a private pay, out-of-network (OON) provider, meaning I am not affiliated with any insurance companies or EAP programs. Payment is required after each session. Services are available for a reduced fee on a Sliding Scale. (See below)
Benefits of Private Pay
Choosing private pay therapy instead of using insurance has several benefits:
- You can pick the therapist that's right for you.
- You & your therapist can decide how long your treatment should be.
- Your therapy details stay private since your therapist doesn't have to share them with an insurance company.
- You can use online therapy without any restrictions.
- Even if your insurance changes, you can keep working with the same therapist.
Using your Out-of-Network (OON) benefits
I can give you monthly superbills that you can send to your insurance company. They might pay you back some money for your therapy sessions, but it depends on your plan and deductible.
To make the most of this, I suggest giving your insurance provider a call. Ask them questions like:
01
Do I have benefits for therapy from out-of-network providers?
02
How much will they pay for my therapy sessions?
03
Does it cover sessions with pre-licensed therapists?
04
Can I do online therapy, and will they pay for it?
05
Do I have a yearly amount I need to pay first (that's called a deductible)? If yes, how much is it, and have I paid any of it yet?
06
If I have a deductible, do I have to pay for therapy until I've paid it off? After that, how much will they reimburse me?
07
What do I need to send them to get my money back?
08
Do I need a referral from another provider to see someone like Steph, who's out-of-network?
If you want to be extra helpful, you can tell them these secret codes:
90791
for the first meeting (that’s
the intake)
90834
for 45-minute therapy
sessions
90837
for 60-minute therapy
sessions
Hope that helps! Don’t hesitate to ask if you have more questions!
Sliding Scale Fee
There are many models for providing reduced-fee services, but New Roots engages in Mutual Aid to guarantee equity.
The concept of Mutual Aid is simple, redistribution of wealth and access from people who have more to people who have less because we all benefit from our collective well-being. At New Roots, your neighbors want you to thrive and actively choose to pay full fees in order to guarantee that you do.
There are limited slots for sliding fee based on the funds available to redistribute.
choosing a session length
When we chat at your first session, we can decide if 45-minute or 60-minute therapy sessions would be better for you. Especially if you’re working on trauma with Internal Family Systems, the longer 60-minute sessions might be really helpful because we can drop in more fully for those exercises during that time.
If you’re thinking about getting money back from your insurance for your therapy, it’s a good idea to check with them. Ask how much they pay for both the 45-minute sessions (that’s called CPT code 90834) and the 60-minute sessions (CPT code 90837). Also, see if there are any rules or restrictions about getting money back for the 60-minute sessions.
